Zelensky Dismisses Ukraine's Top General Amid Political Upheaval

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the country's top military leader, amid ongoing political turmoil following the recent removal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. The decision comes after widespread protests erupted across Ukraine, with demonstrators expressing dissatisfaction over Fedorov's ousting.

The protests, which saw hundreds gather in Kyiv and thousands more in cities like Lviv, highlighted public support for Fedorov, who was known for his innovative approach to digital and asymmetric warfare. Fedorov had been at odds with Syrskyi over military strategy, leading to a public rift that Zelensky ultimately resolved by siding with the general.

Fedorov, aged 35, was a prominent figure in Ukraine's defense sector, having introduced significant reforms during his six-month tenure. His initiatives included efforts to disrupt Russian military operations through technological means, such as disabling access to Starlink and orchestrating drone campaigns targeting Russian logistics in Crimea.

The dismissal of both Fedorov and Syrskyi is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle initiated by the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Zelensky's decisions have sparked a political crisis, raising concerns about the stability of Ukraine's leadership during a critical period in its conflict with Russia.
