U.S. Strikes Iranian Rocket Launchers in Strait of Hormuz

On August 30, 2026, U.S. forces conducted a military strike against two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. This action marks the first U.S. military engagement with Iran in over a month, targeting launchers used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to deploy sea mines into critical shipping lanes.
U.S. Central Command spokesperson Commander Tim Hawkins confirmed the strikes, which followed a recent mine-clearing operation. The operation, completed last week, involved clearing sea mines from the strait's international shipping routes.
Admiral Brad Cooper, chief of U.S. Central Command, detailed the mine-clearing efforts, which involved Navy divers, SEALs, and support from the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy air assets. He stated that the internationally recognized transit routes in the Strait are now free of Iranian sea mines.
In response to the U.S. action, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reported casualties among their fighters and promised retaliation for what they described as an aggressive strike.
This strike is the first confirmed U.S. military action against Iran since late July, highlighting a period of reduced offensive operations until the recent escalation.
