U.S. and Iran Exchange Strikes After Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Jordan

U.S. forces have conducted airstrikes against Iranian military sites for the eighth consecutive night following an Iranian attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan that resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers. The strikes, which took place on the night of July 18, targeted Iranian coastal surveillance, air defense facilities, and missile and drone storage sites, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

The Iranian attack on July 17 involved ballistic missiles and drones and led to two U.S. service members being killed, one missing, and four others wounded. CENTCOM's response focused on elements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that were responsible for the attack in Jordan.

In addition to military targets, the U.S. strikes reportedly included infrastructure such as bridges, water desalination plants, and electrical facilities. The aim was to 'swiftly punish' Iran's Revolutionary Guard for the attack on U.S. forces.
