By Axis News Network Staff

United Airlines faced a significant technology outage on Saturday morning, July 18, 2026, leading to widespread flight delays across the United States. The issue began around 6:00 a.m. Central Time, affecting the airline's SHARES reservation system, which disrupted contact centers, check-in kiosks, and boarding operations at both major and regional airports.

According to United Airlines, the systems were fully restored by approximately 7:15 a.m. Central Time. Despite the restoration, residual delays persisted as crews worked to clear the backlog of affected flights. Peak complaint volumes were recorded at 8:23 a.m., with over 430 reports logged, as per flight tracking and traveler data.

United Airlines issued a statement post-recovery, noting, "Our operations are returning to normal after an early morning technology issue affected contact centers and check-in processes." The airline advised travelers to monitor their flight status via its mobile application.

Passengers reported their experiences on social media, describing long lines and delays at major hubs including Chicago O'Hare, Newark, Washington Dulles, and Houston. However, no official statements from regulatory bodies such as the FAA or DOT have been released to confirm or quantify the extent of the delays.
