U.N. Accuses Hamas of Interfering with Aid Distribution in Gaza

The United Nations has accused Hamas of interfering with humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza, leading to the suspension of operations by the World Food Program (WFP) at a site in the Jabalia Refugee Camp. According to U.N. Deputy Special Coordinator Ramiz Alakbarov, armed individuals entered the WFP facility on July 11, 2026, and assaulted two truck drivers.

The incident occurred at the Abu Rashid area of the camp, where the WFP was distributing food aid. Alakbarov described the intrusion as part of a troubling pattern of intimidation and violence that threatens humanitarian workers and disrupts critical aid delivery.

Hamas, however, has denied these accusations. The group's media office claimed that the personnel involved were conducting a law enforcement operation in response to reports of smuggled goods, including cigarettes and mobile-phone components, concealed within aid parcels. Hamas asserted that the event was mischaracterized by the U.N. as a raid or obstruction of aid efforts.

The U.N.'s stance was echoed by other reports, which confirmed that individuals affiliated with the de facto authorities in Gaza forcibly entered the WFP warehouse, jeopardizing the safety of aid personnel and the continuation of life-saving operations.
