Trump's Approval Ratings Hit Record Lows Amid Summer Polling

By Marcus Ellison

President Trump's approval ratings have plummeted to record lows, with recent surveys indicating significant public disapproval. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on August 17, 2026, reports Trump's approval at 33%, with 64% disapproving, marking the lowest level of his presidency. This trend is consistent with other polls, including the Economist/YouGov survey from August 7-10, which also recorded a 33% approval rating and a 62% disapproval rate, resulting in a net rating of -29.

The Pew Research Center's mid-July poll found similar figures, with 34% approval and 64% disapproval. Among Republicans, 69% expressed approval, contrasting sharply with only 6% of Democrats. The decline in approval is particularly pronounced among independents and Gen X, with the latter showing just 33% approval in late July.

These figures have raised alarms among Republicans as they approach the midterm elections, with concerns that the party could lose its majorities in the House and Senate. The polling data indicates a significant erosion of support among key demographic groups, including non-MAGA Republicans and independents.
