Trump Threatens Further Military Action Against Iran Amid Rising Tensions

President Trump has threatened to launch additional military strikes against Iran and warned of resuming a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. This follows U.S. military action in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces conducted strikes on July 7-8, targeting over 80 sites in the Strait of Hormuz region. These included air-defense systems, missile sites, and port infrastructure. The strikes were ordered by Trump during the NATO summit in Ankara.

In the aftermath, Trump publicly stated that the U.S. was prepared for further military action, indicating the end of a ceasefire. Previously, Trump had declared that the U.S. Navy would blockade the Strait of Hormuz, intercepting vessels that paid tolls to Iran.

The blockade, initiated on April 13, involved over 10,000 U.S. personnel and multiple warships. Within 24 hours, six commercial vessels were turned back. Officials estimate that the blockade cost Iran $500 million per day in lost oil revenue, totaling $4.8 billion by May 1.

Trump also ordered U.S. forces to target Iranian boats laying mines in the Strait, leading to the deployment of a third U.S. aircraft carrier to the region.
