Trump Seeks to Delay $5 Million Payout to E. Jean Carroll

President Trump's attorneys have filed a motion to delay the payment of over $5 million to writer E. Jean Carroll. This move follows the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on June 29, 2026, to reject Trump's appeal of the judgment, which stems from a May 2023 jury verdict that found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation.
Carroll's legal team has requested immediate disbursement of the judgment, which has accrued approximately $779,783 in interest, bringing the total to about $5.8 million. In response, Trump's lawyers filed a motion around July 3, 2026, seeking to revert to a standard disbursement schedule, citing a change in lead counsel as the reason for needing more time to prepare.
Carroll's attorneys have criticized this request as a delaying tactic, noting that the transition in Trump's legal representation was anticipated, with his previous attorney confirmed as a federal appellate judge in June 2026.
Judge Lewis A. Kaplan has set an expedited schedule for the case, requiring Trump's response by July 7, with Carroll's reply due three days later. A decision favoring Carroll could result in the payout occurring by mid-July 2026.
