Trump Claims China Interfered in 2020 Election with Voter Data Breach

President Donald Trump has intensified his accusations of foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election, alleging that China acquired personal data from 220 million American voters. In a primetime address on July 16, 2026, Trump described this as the largest breach of U.S. voter information in history, framing it as a significant vulnerability in election security.

Trump's claims, however, have been met with skepticism from independent experts and fact-checkers. The Department of Justice and Homeland Security previously concluded in a 2021 joint statement that there was no evidence of foreign manipulation of election results or compromise of election integrity. Despite Trump's assertions, no new evidence was provided to substantiate claims that the alleged data breach affected the election outcome.

The President also cited a Department of Homeland Security figure indicating over 250,000 potential non-citizens were registered to vote in four states. This figure, like the broader claims of interference, has not been independently verified or linked to any change in election results.
