Tropical Storm Dolly Forms in Central Atlantic

Tropical Storm Dolly formed on August 27, 2026, over the central tropical Atlantic, approximately 1,555 miles east of the Leeward Islands. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Dolly's maximum sustained winds were estimated at 40 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 1007 mb.
As of 5:00 PM AST, Dolly was located near 13.7° N, 40.7° W, moving westward at 24 mph. The NHC indicated that little change in strength is expected over the next 48 hours, with Dolly forecasted to weaken into a tropical wave by Friday or Saturday.
While no watches or warnings are currently in effect, the remnants of Dolly could bring heavy rainfall to the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola, raising concerns for flash flooding, particularly in higher terrain, from late Saturday through Monday.
The storm is battling an unfavorable environment, including dry air, southwesterly wind shear, and fast forward motion, which are inhibiting its strengthening.
