OpenAI, along with more than 100 organizations, has issued an open letter urging collective action to combat AI-enabled cyberattacks. The letter, published on August 27, 2026, highlights the growing threat of sophisticated cyber threats driven by advancements in AI technology.

The letter, co-signed by major tech firms such as Google, Microsoft, and cybersecurity companies like CrowdStrike and Fortinet, warns that AI-enabled cyberattacks are expected to become more widespread and complex in the coming months. It stresses the importance of taking immediate and coordinated action to bolster cyber defenses.

OpenAI emphasizes that recent advances in AI provide new opportunities for defenders to address longstanding security vulnerabilities. The letter calls for sharing AI capabilities, tools, and verified fixes across organizations to empower defenders and improve security standards globally.

The initiative seeks to mobilize a global, multi-sector response involving governments, cybersecurity firms, AI labs, and critical infrastructure operators. This collective effort aims to elevate security standards and rapidly address emerging threats.

While the letter does not specify numeric targets or funding commitments, it serves as an urgent call to action rather than a pledge of resources. The breadth of support from diverse sectors, including AI labs, security providers, and financial institutions, underscores the widespread concern over AI-driven cyber threats.
