Reaction Dynamics Aims for 2031 Borealis Medium-Lift Launch

Reaction Dynamics, a startup based in Quebec, has announced its plan to launch the Borealis medium-lift rocket by 2031. The Borealis is designed to carry up to 6,000 kg to low Earth orbit (LEO), a significant increase from the company's current Aurora small-lift launcher, which has a capacity of approximately 200 kg.
The development of Borealis marks a strategic shift for Reaction Dynamics, which has moved from hybrid propulsion systems to fully liquid-fueled engines. This transition has been supported by 21 successful hot-fire tests of the new engine design.
To support this ambitious project, Reaction Dynamics is seeking over C$270 million in new investment. This funding will facilitate the construction of a new 375,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Quebec, capable of producing 24 Borealis rockets annually, and will expand the company's workforce from 68 to over 350 employees by 2031.
Reaction Dynamics has already secured C$50 million in funding and is in the process of raising an additional C$70 million through a Series B round. The company is also a participant in Canada's Launch the North initiative, receiving $8.3 million to advance the development of its Aurora rocket, which is expected to launch by 2028-2029.
