Pentagon Withheld Details of U.S. Troop Injuries in Iran Conflict

The Pentagon did not publicly disclose dozens of U.S. military injuries resulting from Iranian strikes in Jordan, according to recent reports. In the week leading up to a deadly attack on July 17, 2026, that killed two U.S. soldiers, Iran conducted three additional strikes that injured numerous service members and damaged military equipment.
A U.S. military official stated that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is not required to report injuries when service members quickly return to duty. This policy has raised questions about transparency in military operations.
On July 17, Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan resulted in two U.S. fatalities and left one service member missing. Four Americans were medically evacuated to local hospitals but have since been discharged. Other personnel with minor injuries returned to duty.
Earlier in the conflict, approximately 140 U.S. service members were reported wounded, with 108 returning to duty and eight categorized as severely wounded, according to a March 10, 2026 report by The Washington Post.
