Oil Prices Surge Amid Middle East and Ukraine Conflicts

By Sofia Bennett

Oil prices have surged as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine intensify, impacting global supply concerns. As of October 12, 2026, Brent crude reached approximately $105.48 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed to $92.44 per barrel.

The price hikes are attributed to recent attacks on shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and a Houthi missile strike on Riyadh's international airport. The situation is compounded by anticipated U.S. offshore production cuts ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

In parallel, President Trump's announcement of a U.S.–Russia diesel deal and a proposed Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire initially led to mixed market reactions. However, Ukraine's accusations of Russia violating the ceasefire have maintained market volatility.
