Kimberly Guilfoyle Resigns as U.S. Ambassador to Greece Amid Allegations

Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece following allegations that she solicited $100,000 from a political donor. The announcement was made by Katie Zacharia, the new White House Press Secretary, during her first briefing on October 13, 2026.
According to reports, Guilfoyle allegedly pressured donor Eric Deters to cover a $100,000 American Express credit card bill just before her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025. Deters claimed that Guilfoyle offered to leverage her connections within the IRS and the Justice Department in exchange for the payment.
Guilfoyle's attorneys have denied the allegations, stating that the amount was owed for a prior speaking engagement. Despite this, a State Department Inspector General investigation into her conduct is reportedly underway.
In a statement on social media, Guilfoyle denied any wrongdoing and expressed her intention to defend her reputation. No official replacement for the ambassadorial position has been announced.
The announcement of Guilfoyle's resignation overshadowed Zacharia's debut as press secretary, which was described by media as brief and rocky.
