Kentucky Governor Requests Health Update on Senator McConnell

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has formally requested a public health update from Senator Mitch McConnell, who has been hospitalized since June 14, 2026. In a letter sent on July 8, Beshear expressed the growing concern among Kentuckians about McConnell's health and urged for transparency.
Beshear's letter stated, "As Governor, I request that you fully update Kentuckians regarding the current status of your health." He emphasized that speculation is unfair to both the Senator and the public, wishing McConnell a speedy recovery.
Senator McConnell, aged 84, was admitted to the hospital after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest at his home. Emergency responders performed CPR before his hospitalization. His office has confirmed that he is receiving excellent care and continues to improve, although specific health details remain undisclosed.
Despite being hospitalized, McConnell has been in contact with Senate Republican leaders and continues to work with his staff on matters concerning Kentucky and the Senate. The Senate is currently out of session.
