India's Vikram-1 Rocket Set for Maiden Launch on July 18

Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket is set to launch on its maiden test flight from Sriharikota's First Launch Pad on July 18, 2026, at 11:30 am IST. This marks a significant milestone as India's first private orbital rocket, carrying four technology payloads from both Indian and international partners.
The Vikram-1, which utilizes a solid-fuel architecture, has undergone extensive ground testing. Skyroot Aerospace opted out of a traditional wet dress rehearsal, conducting comprehensive qualification tests on components and systems instead. The rocket's payload fairing separation system was successfully tested on April 8, 2026, demonstrating reliable operation through high-speed video analysis.
The launch, part of Mission Aagaman, will occur within a window from July 12 to August 4, 2026. The payloads include technology demonstrations such as Grahaa Space's SOLARAS S3, Cosmoserve Space's robotic arm 'Embrace,' and a German in-orbit demonstration by D-Cube Space.
In related industry news, AST SpaceMobile is exploring vertical integration strategies to secure its own access to orbit, potentially through partnerships or acquisitions.
