Darline Graham Announces Candidacy for Full Senate Term

Darline Graham, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate to complete the term of her late brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, has announced her candidacy for a full six-year term. The announcement was made during an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity on July 20, 2026.
Graham was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on July 13, 2026, and sworn in the following day. She holds the distinction of being the first woman and the first sibling to directly succeed a deceased senator from South Carolina.
Despite lacking prior electoral experience, Graham has a substantial public service background, having served as Commissioner for the South Carolina Commission for the Blind since 2019, along with roles at Clemson University and various state departments.
Former President Donald Trump, who initially recommended her for the interim Senate appointment, has endorsed her candidacy for the upcoming special Republican primary scheduled for August 11, 2026. Trump expressed his support through a Truth Social post, urging her to run.
The filing period for candidates begins on July 21 and ends on July 28, 2026. The primary will determine the Republican nominee for the Senate seat, with a runoff set for August 25 if necessary. Several other Republican figures are considering entering the race.
