Dak Prescott Urges NFL Players to Prioritize Health Following Jalen Hurts' Blood Clot Diagnosis

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has spoken out following Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' diagnosis with a superficial blood clot, urging fellow NFL players to prioritize their health by maintaining open communication with medical staff.

Hurts was ruled out for the Eagles' Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers after a follow-up ultrasound on October 14 revealed movement in a blood clot initially detected on October 10. The clot was discovered after Hurts sought treatment for a calf injury sustained on October 4 during a game against the Rams.

Prescott described the situation as “scary” and emphasized the importance of players being proactive about their health. “If you’re feeling something, speak up on it… I encourage people to be open about their body and learn about their body,” Prescott stated, highlighting the need for strong relationships with team medical staff.

Medical experts note that while superficial blood clots are often manageable, they can pose significant risks if they progress to deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can lead to a pulmonary embolism. Approximately 10 percent of superficial clots may worsen or move into deeper veins, making early detection and response crucial.
