Blue Origin to Raise $10 Billion in First External Funding Round

By Adrian Cole

Blue Origin is set to raise $10 billion in its first-ever external capital round, aiming for a pre-money valuation of $130 billion. This marks a significant shift for the company, which has been primarily funded by founder Jeff Bezos's personal wealth.

Coatue Management is expected to lead the funding round with a $4 billion investment, while Bezos himself will contribute $2 billion. The remaining $4 billion is anticipated to come from other institutional investors. This move aligns Blue Origin more closely with industry practices, such as those of SpaceX, which has utilized diverse funding sources since its inception.

The fundraising effort continues despite a recent setback involving the explosion of the New Glenn rocket and its launchpad in Florida. The company has reportedly already signed a term sheet for this substantial funding round.
