Bill Gates Warns AI Has Surpassed Critical Danger Thresholds
By Priya Anand

Bill Gates has raised alarms over artificial intelligence, asserting that it has crossed several critical danger thresholds. According to Gates, these include risks in biocapabilities, cyberattacks, psychosocial manipulation, job market disruption, and loss of control over AI systems.
Gates highlighted the potential for AI to be misused in creating novel molecules, which could lead to bioterrorism, a risk he claims is significantly higher than natural pandemics. He also pointed to the enhanced capabilities of AI in executing mass cyberattacks, describing recent advances in hacking as 'mind-blowing.'
The implications for the job market are particularly concerning, with estimates suggesting that up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs could be eliminated within the next five years. This could result in unemployment rates rising to between 10% and 20% during that period.
Gates emphasized the need for urgent policy responses, including international cooperation, particularly with China, and regulatory measures such as taxes tied to AI-driven job substitution. He also proposed the creation of 'human-reserved' job categories to mitigate employment impacts.
Expressing his shock at the lack of broader concern and discussion, Gates called for increased government expertise and stronger safeguards to manage these emerging threats.
